For book club we read “The God Delusion” and “Reason for God.”
We all felt like the books were a little poorly supported, with too many anecdotes for the subject matter they were discussing. The discussion was really good and Debby is going to send me some follow up material to look over in response to http://bibviz.com/. This is an area I’d love to dive more into, but it requires discussion with people on multiple sides, since I’m pretty agnostic.
Steph and I went over to Andrew’s place for some really tasty Japanese curry. We brought over some wine and bread and it was a really nice time. We watched the remainder of Naked and Afraid XL, which was pretty amazing. I really enjoyed it.
Liana and Ryan joined us for a paint nite event, and it was a really good time. The venue was a little cramped, but I was able to get over to them and chat for a bit. The painting was also the best one we’ve done so far, and I got a lot of comments on mine looking good. I really enjoy the simple paintings with really colorful backgrounds.
Steph and I made some really tasty food this weekend, and it was pretty healthy as well. The shakshuka is mainly tomatoes, peppers, onion, and egg. I really liked the flavor, and it is also fun to watch cook because the eggs go directly on top of all the other ingredients.
This was a fascinating book. The duplicity of the law was made starkly clear, with a decent backstory to how that duplicity came about in such contrast. The biggest thing I don’t like about the book is that is says nothing about what can be done.
This book had a lot of really good points, many of which I’m already implementing. The book does go a little to a strange place when it starts talking about your belongings having feelings. I think the why of much of the later part of the book is wrong, but the how and what make sense. I don’t think my backpack feels left out if it doesn’t have a home. I do think that the backpack will survive longer and be more useful if there is a designated place for it in my home and at the office.
Wednesday was ‘Back to the Future Day’ marking the point in time in Back to the Future 2 where Marty and Doc go to the future.
Stephanie and I decided to do the opposite theme and go to the past, specifically an old style diner in Palo Alto called The Creamery.
We got some really tasty milkshakes there.
This was a fantastic book, and I’m really glad to see some characters from the original Mistborn series coming back into story. The action was just as good, although there were some points that didn’t flow terribly well, mostly for setup in the next parts of the story. I also thought that it was interesting how the twist at the end played out. The cliffhanger at the end was also interesting, and small enough of a cliffhanger that I’m not upset about it and still looking forward to the third book in the second Mistborn series.
This was set in the same universe as Windup Girl, but a little earlier and in the Southern US. The book was a lot lighter hearted than the Windup Girl with a nicer ending by far. I also don’t think it made me think nearly as hard. The themes were underdogs vs. big bad company and not too much else mixed in.
