Steph and I went to Half Moon Bay, and made some glass pumpkins. It was a really pretty area, and the shop was cute. There wasn’t much else going on, but the making of the glass pumpkins in this glass shop, but they seemed to be able to produce quite a few. They didn’t let you do too much of it yourself, which makes sense. The whole shop was primarily set up for people who haven’t done any glass work before. I decided to make an orange speckled one with a dark green stem. Steph made a more artistic pumpkin that was a mix of all sorts of colors. I look forward to seeing how they turned out after cooling. We also stopped by the wine tasting right next door, and Steph tried a few of the wines. I had a great time, but I’d want to have a bit more control if I were to do something like this again.
We had a lot of people over to Beachhead and had a tasty potluck. After eating, and drinking, we did each other’s makeup.
Then we played the Newlywed Game. This game is a series of questions where one person of a couple answers a question and the other guesses what that person guessed. Steph and I had a lot of questions where we didn’t quite get the question, like where did you first meet. We had a really good time, despite losing quite badly. Andrew and Debby won with 21 points, Jeremy and Nori were close behind with 20. Lindsay and Kevin as well as Haru and Allana were at about 17, with Steph and I at 14. There were a number of hilarious answers, like Lindsay being a Dead/Withered flower in the morning. Steph knowing I’d want a wooden tie. Steph knew that the superpower of superman’s that I’d want was the ability to turn back time.
Saturday morning Steph and I got up early to head to the airport. We were heading to Las Vegas to join a large group of people who knew each other in interesting ways. I drove since it was early, and we got to the airport in plenty of time. Once we got to Las Vegas It was time for lunch. We started by meeting up with Kevin and Lindsay, who were having brunch with Andrew and Debby so we could pick up our keys. We then head up to the room and I got all dressed up. Steph also had a lovely top, and classy jacket. We went to the Chihuly glass exhibit at Aria, then we went to a photo gallery nearby. We then went to the Faberge Egg exhibit at the Bellagio and noticed some silly animatronic goats that had been placed for Chinese New Year. There was a large amount of decorations everywhere for Chinese New Year, and almost nothing for Valentines.
We decided to head over to the Mandarin Oriental a little early for High Tea. It was a very nice experience, and the view was spectacular. It was the perfect thing for a Valentines day. After that we spent a little time with the others over a delicious dinner before heading to the LOVE show by Cirque du Soleil. It was quite good, and had a ton of references to British history, the Beatles lyrics, and greater history. There were so many I’m sure I missed a good many, but I did pick up a number that the others didn’t. I really enjoyed the show.
We got back to Aria and drank a bit in the lobby bar, where it was possible to hear each other. We had some great conversation and called it pretty early for Vegas.
The next day we got a delicious brunch at the Venetian, and then went back to the Aria where we hung out a bit. We went to the hot tub with Debby and Andrew, after which we went to hang out with Alana and Haru. We chatted with them for hours, and even stayed past check out. We managed to get back into the room, then headed out to the airport for the flight home.
Steph and I joined Tina, Amit, Jeff, and Patty at Rooster T. Feathers on Friday for a set of four comics. The first guy was trying out a lot of material for the first time, but a good bit was funny. The woman that came second was pretty funny, but it was because she was somewhere between a train wreck and awkwardly cute. She was also describing things that we couldn’t really relate with, but it was still decent. The third guy was really funny and had a really well planned performance. He was probably my favorite. The headliner was playing off the crowd really well, but there were lots of awkward and down moments. The night was a lot of fun and the spiked hot chocolate I got was delicious.
Steph and I joined Andrew, Kevin, and Lindsay at a Pho place on Friday night. The food there was pretty good, and the conversation was interesting, but it was all leading up to the karaoke. We went to a place nearby and got a room. The interface on the karaoke machine was amazingly terrible, like being able to hand write letters for the song you are looking up. We got a book and mainly were inputting numbers. I put in some Beatles songs since they are fun, short, and most everyone knows them. I had a sore throat that day so it was a little tough to sing. Lindsay and Debby were singing amazingly well. Steph was doing pretty good, and then there were the guys. Andrew was ok, Kevin was a little worse, and I was pretty bad due to the sore throat. I had a great time.
Steph and I joined a large group at the Symphony and Dance Libre show, Including Adam, Amit, Leyan, Andrew, and Debby. It was a pretty decent show, but I was feeling restless that evening for some reason. We had a decent dinner beforehand at Three in San Mateo, that had great service and great sauces. The appetizers were the best part of the meal by far, with the flaming cheese being both entertaining and delicious. I thought the sauces were fantastic but the bases were a little lacking. The steak didn’t have much of a flavor besides balsamic sauce, and the bread wasn’t terribly good, but for the cheese on it. I still had a great time there, especially with Steph.
This was a great time in the city with Nick and Sarah. Steph and I took the train and rode our bikes to the Caltrain and took that to the City. We rode our bikes along the bay, and to the pier. There was a farmer’s market around the pier and we got some food there before continuing on to the exploratorium. We got inside and Nick and I almost immediately got distracted by one of the exhibits, it was a horizontal spinning plate that you could put small plastic wheels onto. The wheels would roll along the plate and if you got it right would stay on and make interesting patterns. We stayed there longer than the girls would have liked. We then went to see many other interesting exhibits, including some geysers that were constructed to go off at 20-30 minutes depending on height, there was a room that had photo-reactive walls, there was an infrared camera to see how hot things were. It was a great time, and I’d be up for going again.
After that we went to Nick’s place and washed our hands a half dozen times because of all the exhibits that everyone had been touching. Then we went to the Ethiopian place near where he lives. The food there was amazing, and the bread they had was better than any other’s we’d had before, because it was made with the Ethiopian starch instead of wheat. It was a great time.

Steph and I went to the birthday party of an old coworker from Zynga. Jack lives in Hayward, so we drove over and took a board game called Gauntlet of Fools. We played that a few times, which I think people enjoyed, then we headed out to go on a short hike very close to Stephanie’s parents house. There was a lot more open space than I had first thought, with the hill we saw from the parking lot being just the tip of the iceberg. We walked around for about an hour, and it was getting cold and late so we headed back. The view from on top of the hill was very nice.
