This week I was involved with hosting a game jam and an AI video hackathon. The game jam is one that I put together myself and went really well. The games were surprisingly good and the participants have been lovely to chat with. I made a tower defense game inspired by Thronefall and Kingdom: https://dgeisert.itch.io/kitty-kingdom
I also played through all the entries and made videos of all the playthroughs as well as making a compilation video of the games:
The AI video hackathon is the Big Screen Hack. It has been going much better this time around, so I’m looking forward to seeing the winners on IMAX next Friday. https://www.bigscreenhack.com/. Monday evening we got together for the kickoff of the week of movie making. The space was a converted church where they had a projector that gave a 20 meter screen to kick off the event. I presented and then we chatted around for a bit.
Tuesday I stopped by the Grant Museum of Zoology, which is mostly skeletons of different animals, but also has some taxadermy and animals in jars. The one part that I thought Steph would like was glass models of nudibranchs.
Tuesday evening Steph and I wanted a nice date night dinner so we went to a sushi place that had been on our list for a while. The place was interesting with an interactive table, but the food wasn’t very good. They had a large selection of vegetarian options, but the food was overcooked and oddly flavoured.
I also took Saturday to do a day hike from London on the Mole Gap trail. It goes through some nice forests, fields, and vineyards. The day was absolutely perfect for the hike as well.
