I really liked this book, and the series is exciting to me. The main character has too much of the hero complex, and is too disobedient for it to make much sense. Other than that, somewhat because of that, the series is very amusing. The times that the main character comes in contact with the admin aliens is very amusing since it always seems to work out in his favor.
This was a festival party thrown by apple in Alameda at one of the hangers that had been converted to a winery. It was a very cool venue, but the festival part was lackluster. The fun house was incredibly disappointing, and the carnival game (singular) wasn’t very good. The wine flight was a little dry for my taste, and Steph agreed. What made it fun was the selection of food, and the people we were there with. Jeremy was nice enough to take us along, and drive. We met Brian and his wife there, and they will be moving back to South Bay soon from the sound of it. That will make for a lot more Rock Band and Dance Central.
I liked the story, but some parts of it seemed like the people weren’t behaving as they should. The parts where they didn’t listen to each other were especially hard to understand and accept. I really liked the ending, especially with the person destroying and escaping from silo 1.
I played Galaxy Trucker with Tina and Adam, and won by a lot. We did a new part of the expansions where you choose a card to be added to the deck and then that card applies to everyone when it comes up. We ended up hurting ourselves more than the other players, but that happens. I was also able to make a ton of money from cargo on the second round. That went really really well for me, to the point where I would have gotten and extra $12 had I been able to keep the merchant from dying. It was a good time, where I almost doubled Tina’s score, and she almost doubled Adam’s score.
The kitties are doing great! I am really loving them and they are being cuddly all the time. They make my days so much nicer.
This was a pretty interesting book, and how they handled time paradoxes was interesting. I also liked that there was a good villain back story, and everything seemed pretty coherent, even though it was changing. The separate time lines interacting with each other was very interesting. I especially liked the way the main character had multiple time lines, and several characters knew the different Kates very well. So even though she changed as the time line was rewritten, the people still knew the different versions of her. I thought the main character from this book resembled the main character from Outlander in that she tries to be strong, but ends up needing a man to break her out of her troubles. I’ll give Kate the benefit on this one, since it doesn’t happen all the time, and usually isn’t her fault, unlike Outlander.
I liked the book, and was surprised at the number of company’s in the book that I’d visited. I also liked that their measure of success was usually having a good life and not making tons of money.
I thought this was a very well done series, but the acceleration at the end was a bit disappointing. The series had a huge build up and the ending was so quick. I really liked the way they went from a normal world, to conspiracy, to aliens, to universe war. The final enemy serpentine army defeat was super disappointing in how it happened, but the way the main bad guy was defeated was great. I really loved his ending. The world that was built wasn’t well flushed out, but I really liked the parts that were.
Steph and I went to the Cal Ave farmers’ market, and had our customary Samosas. I’m glad she got into that with me. We were able to get the pumpkin bolani. I was also able to send off my mom’s birthday present with a little something for my dad in the box.
