Dinner and Games

I went to hang out in Palo Alto on Tuesday, while Irene was getting her phone fixed.  I got a lot of work done at the Starbucks next door, and eventually she finished and we got some really tasty food at Yayoi.

I then headed to Tina’s place to plays some games with her, Adam, and Tim.  We played Castles of Mad King Ludwig.  It was a great time, and I was just behind Tina in points, and the other two were a ways behind us.

Yoga and Dinner

Monday I had met Debby and Jeremy for yoga.  We went through a pretty tough session of heated yoga, but this time I remembered to bring a lot of towels.  I really enjoyed the session, as it was on the difficult side for me.  Jeremy had a hard time of it, but he was on a calorie restriction diet as well as his first time in 10 years doing yoga.  Debby seemed to breeze through, but she does a lot more yoga than I do.

Dinner afterwards was nice as we were joined by Adam and Andrew at a Thai place next to the yoga studio.

Prolific Oven/ Tapt Board Games

I got to play some games with people at the Prolific Oven/Tapt in Sunnyvale.  It is a fantastic place to play games, and they have a lovely selection of drinks.  The ginger mead I had the first time wasn’t there unfortunately.  It is a drink I’ll need to find more of (Sting – Ginger Session Mead).

The games were fun, we played Spirit Island twice, then Feast for Odin.  Adam just barely beat me on Feast, and we were able to clean up pretty easily on Spirit Island.

Wandering Wednesdays

I had a lot of friends join me at the SVVR coworking space for a wfh day for them.  It was really nice having them around and working at the same time.  Darren and Debby joined early on, followed by Adam.

Later on Irene joined in as well.  It was a decently productive day for me.

Breakwater Dive

Steph and I did an early Sunday dive in Breakwater.  We did one really long dive, probably close to an hour underwater, and going from the wall out to the metridium fields.  The dive was pretty nice, and not too cold, since we were doing quite a bit of swimming.  We saw a sea lion or harbor seal underwater, but it was just a large black object that went by really quickly.  It probably had a three foot approach to Steph, but didn’t slow down much.  There were also a ton of nudibranchs, but all of them were the white with yellow tips varietal.  I also saw a few different types of crab, including a massive sheepshead crab.  It wasn’t extended, but I assume it would be around 5 foot span if it did.  The metridiums were pretty as always, and we got a little lucky to run across them, as we didn’t hit the pipe first.

After the dive we walked along the waterfront to get crepes.  I really enjoyed my pesto, tomato, and cheese crepe.  The walk itself was much better than I would have thought, and something I’ll certainly want to do every time we go diving at Breakwater.

Tina’s Gigasecond

Tina hosted a Gigasecond party at her place.  She recently turned 1 Billion seconds old, which is a celebration point that I’ve been talking about to a lot of our friends.  She had a lot of people over to her place… a lot.  I was a bit uncomfortable with the number of people so I somewhat hid in a corner and talked to the people I already knew.  It was good to see some people that I hadn’t in several months.

Tina baked scones for the occasion and they were delicious.  Steph decided to also do some baking, and made some delicious clotted cream and biscuits.  She was able to use the rosemary from our front yard for a really tasty rosemary butter.

Book Club: Starship Troopers

The discussion for Starship troopers was a good one.  Heinlein is a great author, and this is one of his more unique works.  The book is a platform for him to talk about his philosophical and political beliefs, which are pretty interesting.  We didn’t agree with most of them, but they got us talking about all sorts of interesting topics.

More Feast for Odin

Tina, Amit, Adam, and I played a round of Feast for Odin at Adam’s place.  It was fun, and I took a different strategy than I normally do.  It didn’t pay off in the end.  Tina did emigration and pillaging and ran away with the game.  Amit did well on pillaging and got a solid second.  Adam and I were pretty far behind with third and fourth.

Afterwards we went to Tap’t, so Tina could get some princess cake.  I got a fantastic ginger mead.

New Years Eve Festivities

Stephanie and I joined George, Adam, Lindsay, Kevin, Debby, and Andrew at Q-Pot for dinner.  Stephanie had a personal hot pot, as that was the only veggie option, and the rest of us did Korean BBQ.  We ate sooo much meat.

We then headed back to Lost Colony and hung out for a bit.  We had drinks, snacks, and deserts.  Then we played a game of Scattergories and a round of Codenames.  The kittens were amazing.
