For Dad’s birthday we went out to dinner at Goin’ Coastal. It had a very California feeling to it, but many of the places close to Piedmont Park have that feeling. The food was pretty good, but I realized while looking at the menu; I’m not really a fan of seafood. The thing I like most about seafood restaurants is that they usually have really tasty rolls.
Nick, Kim, and I drove up to Jekyl Brewery in Alpharetta to meet up with Chris and Chelsea. We had some beer at the brewery and had a good tour of it. They had a large Jenga set made of 2×4’s set up. We got it on some really precarious base, and Nick ended up knocking it over.
After that we went to the closeby La Parilla for dinner. During dinner I got a call from Steph about Leopold missing since the plumber came into the apartment. She ended up finding Leopold, but he was really upset by the incident.
Jeff and Leslie came over around 11:15 Christmas morning and we started opening presents. There were lots of great presents to go around, and I got some really nice ones. Jeff game me a really nice messenger bag that has a battery in it for charging devices. I got lots of the things I had asked for as well. Kim got me a really nice fedora. Mom and dad got me some books, socks, gloves, shoes, and other useful things. We had a big dinner and the food was delicious. Like any good holiday dinner there was way too much food and a good bit of leftovers for eating over the following days. We played some Cards Against Humanity, since I had gotten the rest of the set for Jeff. As expected Dad really liked the game, and Mom was appalled at some of the answers. Mom still liked it more than expected. After that, Jeff and Leslie left. I then got my parents and Kim to play some of the games I had made. They had some good feedback.
Dad, Mom, and I went to the Ru San’s near little 5. We stopped by the Best Buy beforehand. Kim joined us, but Jeff and Lesley weren’t able to. Dad was strange and said I could only order one thing, so I ordered a three course dinner with a huge sushi plate as the third course. It was all tasty, and dad picked at the first two courses. I ate all of it and I really liked it.
I had a nice walk to lunch with Brian and Brittany. We ate burgers at a place called Farm Burger, that gets lots of it’s food from local sources. I got some tasty sweet potato fries, and they got some homemade root beer. We went back to my parent’s place and I showed them my Thailand photos. Brian and Brittany were kind enough to try out my game. They seemed to like it and I’ll have to push it out more widely once I get a little bit further in the game development.
Steph and I made some delicious Tom Yom with Caryn and Nima. They came over to help us cook, and it was a lot of fun. Since we prepared everything so quickly, I don’t think we got as much of the spice in the soup as we normally do. We had the soup the next day and it was very tasty. Nima and Caryn seem to be doing well, and we should hang out with them more. They are really fun people. They invited us over to their place some time in January for some Persian food, and I’m really looking forward to it.
Stephanie and I went to dinner and had a good time about it. We got a lot of small dishes and shared them. They had some of the best stuffed grape leaves I’ve ever had; even Steph liked them and she doesn’t normally like stuffed grape leaves. The beet salad was really good, and we got fries for good measure on filling up. We got desert which was pumpkin bread pudding and galaktoboureko, a dish that had cream filled fried pastries with ice cream. The bread pudding was good but the other dish was better.
This dinner was for us knowing each other about 2 years now. It has been the best 2 years of my life for sure.
Steph and I stopped by the Chocolate Garage yesterday and got some really tasty chocolates. There was one maker that we will probably sign up for a bimonthly delivery from. He is a chocolate maker that lives in Hawaii and grows his own beans. One of the Chocolate Garage owners let us try some of the samples he had sent her. They were delicious.
We then stopped by the Whole Foods and got stuff for more Tom Yom, as well as some milk for hot chocolate and cheese making. We went back to Steph’s place and met up with Jeff, Patty, and Candice. They all had some of Steph’s amazing cheese, and we talked about company stuff.
Steph and I went to dinner at Los Charros with Jeremy, Andrew, and Lindsay. I biked there and it took about 50 minutes. I nearly got hit by a guy that came flying off the interstate at about 70 mph onto a 35 mph road, right through the crosswalk that I was in. Lindsay was a little late, so the rest of us all ordered beforehand and got the wet burritos. They were absolutely massive, at least 50% larger than the average human stomach. Being Americans and the burritos being delicious we promptly ate the entire thing. After dinner we stopped by Tea Era for some boba.
We then went to Jeremy’s where they tested out some wine aerators. I had a bit of trouble poring one of them as it splashed everywhere when going through the aerator. We talked about all sorts of things and had a relaxing time.
