Adam, Nick, and I played another round of Tzolk’in last night. I wasn’t playing any particular strategy, so I just got a lot of people, and got them working. I was mostly efficient, and it worked out ok in the end. Had Nick not sniped the monument I was somewhat building up to I would have probably beaten Adam, but things went well anyway. I think next time I’ll be going full god pleasing.
Last night Adam, Nick, and I played through the game Caribbean, which is all about bidding on ships, ordering, and spacial management. I was able to barely win over Adam, but I was taking a lot more time to think through the possible things that the others were going to do, how I could thwart them, and how I could use their misses to my advantage. I did really well at this in a few places and that won me the game.
Steve made a very open RPG system, and we went over to his house to play through it. It was very fun to play an open RPG, as I hadn’t really played through one before. Every time I’ve played some kind of RPG it has been a campaign style, where you go through a story that the dungeon master has laid out. We weren’t quite sure how to handle things at the start, but it worked out fine. We also didn’t get very far in the gameplay, as the character setup took us about 3 hours. The main conflict had only just been introduced, and we hadn’t even decided how we were going to handle it. We’ll be finishing up the game some time soon, and I’m looking forward to it.
Last night I looked up what was the best rated 1$ place on Yelp for Mountain View and Palo Alto. It was a Vegan/Vegetarian place in Mountain View called Garden Fresh (Yelp). Steph and I went there for dinner and it was pretty tasty. We split some stuffed tofu, scallion pancakes, and mixed veggie noodles. The place was also nicely quaint. I’d like to order out of there, or go back again.
Steph and I have started watching a decent anime called “Attack on Titan” at the suggestion of Andrew. I like it so far, but the premise has some really strange parts to it. There are these nearly invincible giants called Titans that eat humans, but they are also idiots and naked. The only part that makes them scary is their size, strength, and speed. I find it funny how often these things sneak up on the main characters, like they would be sneaky at all.
Archer and Lana have been getting cuddlier lately, and I really like it. I found out how to make them cuddly, or more like when to expect them to be. If I give them wet food, then for the next few hours they will be full and ready to cuddle. I also haven’t needed to pick them up and put them in my lap too much, as they will come seek me out for the cuddles. I kind of want to make a game like Hungry Hungry Hippos, that is Cuddly Cuddly Kitties. You would have to catch and cuddle with all the kitties as they went running around. It would be very silly, and not that complicated to play, but I like the theme.
This past weekend I spent the entire weekend making games at the SF Indie Game Jam. It was a ton of fun, and I really enjoyed the people I was working with. I hope they thought I was as good to work with as I thought they were. I was especially impressed with Frank, one of the developers on the team. To find out more about what went on at the game jam look at my post on caduo.com.
This is a great place on 2nd street in SF. It is a buffet service with dim sum, deli food, and other tasty Asian deliciousness. I got a box full of dim sum then went to a Starbucks to work for a bit before the competition started.
This book is an amazing comprehensive look at the big questions. I especially like it because he doesn’t give answers. He looks at the way we can look at the universe and the people who are looking at the universe. He gives each method of looking at the universe an equal treatment with the other; pointing out their shortcomings and their strengths.
