It's an Exciting World

The life and times of David Geisert

Caverna

I joined Adam, Cynthia, and Tina for a game of Cavarna.  I had a great bike ride to Mountain View for sushi with them at Sushi Tomi beforehand.  I tried doing an Agricola like build of mainly farming and animals.  It turned out ok, but not great.  Tina did really well with her crops.  Adam did amazingly well with his use of the office and lots of mines.  I think next time I’ll do farming and mining, without worrying about animals.  If I can get the office I will, but won’t worry about it too much.  That and going really early family.

Kitty Belly!

The kitties are loving their belly rubs, and I even got videos of it:

mmmm belly rubs

They are so cute, and I love them so much.

Hiking near Pacifica

Steph and I went to just south of Pacifica and met with Jeff and Patty to have a nice hike.  We had a great time and walked all the way to the top of the hill and we able to see across the bay.  This was surprising since we started right next to the ocean.

MTG Conspiracy and Grilled Cheese

We had a nice draft of Conspiracy, and I got an especially good deck.  I got the crazy good dragon, and another Grenzo.  Grenzo is the main card that won me the game, but the loot the graveyard cards, and the doppleganger was also helpful.  We had a lot of grilled cheese with bacon and tomatoes.  These were delicious.  I am looking forward to playing again.

Galaxy Trucker

I lost badly in a game of Galaxy Trucker.  I had an amazing ship in the second round, and I was able to see the whole deck had no open space.  We had the summersault rule in effect, so just in case I put in an engine.  There was a card that added 2, 4 level cards.  This card ended up bringing in 2 open space so I had to give up.  I was very unhappy about it since I had a really good ship.  I didn’t do well in the final round either.  Chris of course won, with Tina in second I think.

Steph’s Mac ‘n’ Cheese Night

Steph had a great get together of probably 20 people for Mac ‘n’ Cheese.  She made 3 casserole dishes of it, and it was all delicious.  On top of that Wit cooked 2 more casserole dishes of mac ‘n’ cheese, and a big pot of tomato soup.  I broke out some of the cider, and it was a wonderful gluttonous evening.  I played Nick in a game of Balloon Cup, and won by a tiny margin.  We also decided to play a game of 7 wonders with Nima, and I lost that gloriously.  I was stuck between strategies, and it didn’t pan out.  Chris destroyed in that game with a full set of science; not a single other person played a science card.

Huddart Park with Jeff and Patty

I really enjoyed the 7ish mile hike with Jeff and Patty.  They are really great to chat with and share a lot of world views that I have.  They are active and energetic, but relaxed.  I get the feeling that the work at Apple grates on them especially badly since they are of the relaxed temperament.  Patty had just left Apple, and she was really enjoying the mini retirement.  She is using mainly to get back in touch with friends and previous co-workers.  Jeff is working hard, harder than he’d like, and is doing well at Apple.

Out of the Black

This book was really good, but they took out one of my favorite parts.  There wasn’t any empire perspective, and I think that it not being mentioned was a big oversight.  Since the empire ships were watching the battle they should have at least mentioned what the empire plans would be at that point.  I still really liked the book.

Homeworld

The action in this book was great.  I really like the overview of the battle from the Empire perspective.  Their incredulousness is one of the best parts of the entire book.  I was surprised by the ending, but I suppose the series was setting up for it more or less.
