It's an Exciting World

The life and times of David Geisert

Meeting Katie’s Family

Katie, Jeff’s girlfriend, invited us to her parents house to watch the rivalry games.  We got to meet her parents and sister.  The games were good to watch, but I called Steph for an hour.  The GT-Georgia game had an amazing and riveting ending with GT winning.  I had a great time, and met Amanda, Katie’s younger sister right before leaving.  I was amused by the mirror of our family.  We are boy, boy, girl and the gaps are 1.5 years and over 2 years.  Their family was girl, girl, boy with gaps of 1.5 years and over 2 years.  It was amusing.

Thanksgiving

We went to my grandmother’s house for Thanksgiving.  We got up early and met at my parents house for breakfast before leaving.  Kim was running late so Mom waited for her.  We got a little far ahead and stopped by Bass Pro Shop on the way.  We were the first ones there, and we helped set up as much as we could.  Nana is always wanting to set things up and clean herself.  Not many people came this year, and it was probably a total of 20 people.  Fred and I got to show pictures to each other.IMG_1790 IMG_1793 IMG_1792 IMG_1787 IMG_1785 IMG_1783 IMG_1778 IMG_1775 IMG_1774 IMG_1773 IMG_1770 IMG_1769

Flying to Atlanta

I got a Supershuttle to SFO and there wasn’t any complication in the flight.  I got to ATL and Jeff picked me up around midnight.  We headed back to his place.  The next day we went to our parents house and had a nice dinner.  It was Jeff’s birthday so we had a nice cake.  I got to meet Jeff’s girlfriend, and she was nice, cute, and smart.  Jeff and she seemed to get along really well.  The dinner was more or less meat.  There was a salad, but the primary food was chicken, pork, and beef.  There was also Red Lobster dinner rolls, that were delicious.  We also hiked up Stone Mountain, and it was cold at the top with a strong wind.  The view was fantastic.  We went shooting on Friday and I fired 2 dozen rounds.  We did 2 rounds of 5 shot competitions, with the first standing and the second kneeling.  I was barely better on both, with Jeff close behind.  Dad did the standing with us, and was way off.

Documentary Night – More Than Honey

This was a pretty good documentary, and the turn out was much more than the previous nights.  There were probably 15 people there, so I ended up grabbing some floor space.  We had some pretty good food as well.  Steph and I brought some gnocchi in pesto sauce.  Brian brought some quiche, and there was a tasty tuber mash of some sort.  I had a really good time and enjoyed the documentary.

Lightbringer Series

This was a really great fantasy series, and it was especially great with the different views of the history of the world.  The power struggles are also a pretty amazing part of the plot, especially with the characters who really know what is going on, but not changing everything.  The series is pretty long and the Kip character becomes a little overpowered quickly.  I do like that he starts out as a fat kid who can’t do anything.  The characters are very believable, and the different sides all follow reasonable values and are pretty consistent.  I can’t wait for the 4th book.

Vegas Showdown

We played a fun game of Vegas Showdown with Tina winning by a good bit.  She was mistaken at one point and placed something she couldn’t, but even taking the difference out she still won by a good bit.  I made an early bet that didn’t turn out, but still got a solid second.  I really enjoyed the play, even if it was a bit slow at times.  We had a lot of points where many people took the publicity action, which was a little surprising.  Perhaps with 5 people it happens more often than with the 4 i’ve played with before.

Dinner with Christian

Christian and I met at Saigon City for some pho, and it was pretty good.  We had a great chat about where he is, and all the new things that he is going to be looking forward to.  We went to a nearby bar and had a few drinks.  On the way there the train in front of the one I was on hit a car.  That made me about 20 minutes later than I was hoping to be, but I had planned to get there an hour early and hang out at Philz until Christian got in, so not a big deal.

Dinner with Steph’s High School Friends

Steph and I went to one of the restaurants that her friends and she used to frequent for dinner. I felt really out of place since I was the only SO there, and even when Sarah showed up I felt a little odd.  The conversation was entertaining and when it was all done Steph realized that they were all growing a bit apart.  I suggested that we could put more effort into hanging out with them, and she agreed that we should.

Tech World

This book was much easier to understand than the previous two.  While the aliens are much more different in temperament to humans they are decently easy to understand.  I also like that the things which happened in the book aren’t as much luck surrounding a single person as they are a compounding of factors.  There is a certain flow of one action causing another that wasn’t really a part of the previous books as much, he just seemed to have everything happen to him without it being because of something he did.
