It's an Exciting World

The life and times of David Geisert

Zeni

Steph, Jeremy, and I went to Zeni for some tasty Ethiopian food.  It was very good and we got the three things that we’d found most tasty in the several times that we’ve been there: Foule, Gomen Kitfo, and Yemizir Wat.  We managed to finish off the entire dish, which is the first time we’ve done that since I’ve been going there.  This is usually because we don’t start on the bottom bread until the toppings are nearly finished, but this time I started digging into the bottom as soon as it was possible, and we didn’t get any refills on the bread rolls.  I was getting a caffeine headache, and they didn’t have any caffeinated beverages, since their fountain drink machine was broken.

Mario 3D

Michael and Jeremy joined Steph and I at Beachhead.  Michael did some work, but Jeremy, Steph, and I played some Mario 3D.  It is a well done game that has a lot of fun parts to it.  There are also some really annoying parts that are hard to do with multiple players, or hard to do due to the camera angles in the 3D world.  We played through worlds 4 and 5.

Munchkin

Amy, David, Angelo, and I played Munchkin on Thursday.  It was a really slow start, but once we got rolling, everyone got rolling together.  I was so close to winning, but Angelo was able to take down a potted plant for the victory, with no one able to buff the potted plant enough to stop him.

Walking the Kitties

I walked the kitties by myself today, and it went ok.  The dogs were in the back yards, so when they started barking, Archer and Lana ran off.  They chose to run in opposite directions and made it impossible for me to get them both.  I let Archer run back inside and then guided Lana back in.  It wasn’t ideal, but they did ok.

Children of the Mind

This book was a big complicated mess, but the story was decent.  The way that reality started to fall apart wasn’t all that appealing to me.  I like the philotic connections that they make up, but the way that things crumble when they aren’t being paid attention to was a little much.  I’m interested to read more about the communications with the new race.

Shadow Puppets

This was a great finale to the story of Bean and Achilles.  There were many parts of this that I didn’t expect, and that made it all the more interesting.  I was also surprised by how well planned some of the moves were, making it very neat to see them come through.  I liked this story especially well since the motivations behind all of the characters were very believable and understandable.  The only one I was a little surprised about was Bean and Petra with their embryos, but I think that was a bit of the Mormon influence coming through.

Squash with Nima

I got to play some squash today, but I got beaten pretty badly in 2 out of the 4 games.  The remaining two games I only won one, and barely lost the other.  They were both really good games, when I was warmed up and not yet too tired to keep playing.  Nima was in much better shape than I was and I could really feel it.  We hung out some before the game working a bit on a game in unity.  He was surprised at how quickly things can come together in Unity.  We’ll probably be able to get the game playable with just one more meeting next week.

Mort

This was a really pleasant book, that had a lot of background on the diskworld.  The amusing parts about death and how he didn’t want the job anymore were very nice.  I liked the way he treated the cats in the story.  I look forward to reading more of the diskworld books.

Cancelled Flight

In the morning we went to see Steph’s Cousin and had lunch at a cute place that had good food.  They caught up on all sorts of stuff, and I chimed in a bit.  We then met up with everyone else where we found out that the flight had been delayed 3 hours.  I was ready to get there, but we stopped of for some food first at a cheese steak place.  The cheese steaks were delicious and we then went to wait at the terminal.  The flight continued to get delayed, and a flight to SFO that was originally scheduled after us left.  We shortly thereafter got the news that our flight had been cancelled.  This was very annoying since, had we chosen to drive, we would have just been arriving back in SF.  Amit and Steph were nice enough to drive us back, and I tried to get as much sleep as possible, but the car wasn’t particularly comfortable for it.
