Paint Nite

Last night I gave Steph her birthday present of a Paint Nite at Willow Street Pizza in Saratoga.  I was doing it as a surprise, and she was guessing what it would be until she saw the canvases in the window of the restaurant.  She really enjoyed it, but I’m not sure she liked the surprise aspect.  The food and drink was good, and we both decided not to just paint the basic painting.  The painting that was taught was more or less what you see below, but the trees in the background weren’t given the red leaves.  I also added in a bit of a sun ray coming into what I made to be a clearing.  Steph and I were doing really well compared to most of the rest of the class.  I also noticed that there were 3 men and 27 women at the paint nite.  The painting on the left is mine and the painting on the right is Steph’s.

Steph’s Bday Dinner

Steph’s birthday was yesterday and she didn’t want to go out and do anything big, so we stayed in and had dinner at her place.  I went to Oren’s Hummus to pick up some food, and got the vegetarian’s delight and a falafel wrap with some labane and hummus.  I met her at her place when she got back from martial arts.  The food was really tasty.  She broke out some good sake and that surprisingly complimented the meal well.  After eating we watched David play through some of a Far Cry spinoff game.  It was over the top and hilarious.

Yeah! Burger with Jeff

Jeff took me to Yeah! Burger for dinner on Sunday since Leslie couldn’t join us.  We did an order to go since I was planning on meeting up with Derick at 8pm and we only had an hour to get the food and get back.  The meat and produce were really well documented for where they came from, and most of it was local farms.  There was a chalkboard saying which farm each type of meat had come from.  I really like that kind of food transparency.  It is one of the philosophical things I’ve been working through.  Jeff took great care of me throughout the week.  I know he felt bad about having me come out there, but I think he had a relaxing time.  I hope it is what he needed.

Famous Pub with Derick

I hung out with Derick at Famous after picking up dinner with Jeff.  I ate the Yeah! burger on the walk from Jeff’s place to Famous Pub.  Derick and I talked about all sorts of stuff, mainly just catching up on life.  I brought up some of the philosophical questions I have been struggling with lately.  We had a few beers and split some fries with amazing toppings.

Hanging out with Jeff

Friday night Jeff made a fantastic pizza.  It was have pesto with mushroom and broccoli, and half pimento cheese with bacon.  It was amazingly tasty.  We played games until about midnight, then I stayed up working for a while on getting up the Beta to CloudBurst.  The next day we didn’t do much besides watch the GT game and play video games.  He introduced me to DOTA 2 and we lost pretty badly.  I was absolutely terrible.  We also played a lot more GTA V.  We stayed up until about 2am playing the GTA V.  Jeff made a delicious cauliflower casserole with bacon.  I ate far to much of it.  Sunday morning we did pretty much the same, playing GTA V and watching the Falcons game.  We are planning to go to Taco Bell for dinner to get all sorts of Doritos tacos.

Jeff and Olive, his cat. He called her hobo cat because she was hanging out on a cardboard box with some bubble wrap.

Steak and Fire

Dad cooked steaks for dinner, and Kim was able to join us before she headed off to her Spanish movie.  It was a really simple but nice dinner of steak and broccoli.  I must admit that there has been a lot more meat than I’m used to being served since I got back.  I think that is mostly due to my mom’s low carb diet.

After dinner my dad and I tried to start a fire with just the wooden dowel and block.  We managed to get a good sized coal going, but the kindling that we were using wasn’t good enough to make a fire with.  He is going to find some better kindling for next time we are together (probably Christmas) and we can try it out then.  I am interested to know where Christmas will be this year.  Either Memphis or Atlanta, and I’m hoping for Atlanta.

Lunch at The Commissary

After helping Mom out this morning with loading the car with Good Will items and then mowing, Kim and I went out to lunch.  We went down to The Commissary and it was tasty.  I love their sauce and their deviled eggs.  We talked about all sorts of things, and mostly relationships since that is the crazy part of the last month.  I’m grateful to have such an amazing woman, and not to be caught up in all the drama that has been happening.  Mom was nice enough to cover lunch for the two of us.  When we got back I helped out with some more packing.

Tasty Scallops

After golfing Dad and I went by the Fresh Market.  We picked up a dozen scallops and Dad cooked them up really tasty.  I was glad to have them with the bacon on them.  The little bits of bacon make things soo tasty.  Mom also made some fantastic bacon wrapped asparagus.  It is nice having dinner with my family again.

Sailing

Saturday we went sailing out of Santa Cruz, and it was really nice.  Steph and I were joined by Ray, Monica, Chris, Francis, Michael, and Ray’s Friend Paul.  The girls got sick when we went out to the high wind and rough sea.  It was fun out in the heavy wind, but the light wind was terrible.  The area inside the mile buoy was full of weak swirling winds.  Steph took a long turn fighting them while I ate, but I took back over when that was through.  She got us out to the good wind and it was nice.  I got tired of holding the wheel and my shoes were terrible at gripping the surface.  Ray took over for a while and did really well.  As long as we weren’t doing jibes, I’d be fine with anyone taking the wheel.  Afterwards we went to the Penny Ice Creamery.  There was a little stand that we found first that was a block and a half from the main building.  We walked over there once we asked the girl at the booth where the main building was.  I got some amazing coffee and praline.
