Quick Activities

Dance Libre

Iliya and I went to the Dance Libre performance that Tina was a part of.  She did a great job in the dancing as did the rest of her group.  The plot was very much separate, and related to the rest of the performance only slightly.  The plot was vegetarian zombies turning into flesh eating zombies.  The secret to keeping them vegetarian was the rutabaga.  That said it did provide a decent amount of comic relief and segues.  There were also lots of comic relief points in the dances, and I was most impressed with how well they were incorporated, while the dancers didn’t miss a beat.  I was satiated at about an hour of the dancing, but the rest of the performance was still quite good.  The thriller dance at the end was a nice finish to it.

4D Games out with Beachhead

A group got together to go play games at an arcade that had 4D rides.  The group was most of Beachhead house including Tina, Amit, Candice, David, Kevin, Steph, and I. The place was pretty small, and the rides had varying levels of complexity.  The big one had a really nice, and silly, great wall experience.  It had bubbles, and a moving roller coaster like car.  They also had some basic games like ski-ball and pac man.  We spent a couple hours there, then went to a burger and shake place for dinner.  The shake was pretty good, as it was chocolate and butterfinger.

Lunch with the Lees

Stephanie and I went to her parents house for Lunch on Sunday, and the food was delicious.  The Lees had prepared some fish taco makings, and some cantaloupe for dessert.  I really enjoyed the time we spent with them, and they were great to talk to.  After lunch we went on a walk at the reservoir, for about 3 miles total.  I ended up getting a little sun burn, but it wasn’t that bad.  We saw a gigantic fish sitting in a little cove off the reservoir and Mr. Lee wanted to go get his fishing gear.

Farmers Market

Steph and I drove to the California Avenue Farmers Market and were surprised that they took up another block of the street for the market.  It was nicer, and there were a number of new stands that we got to sample.  One place that was interesting was an herbal tea stand that was made from the products of one garden.  I would have gotten some if there were caffeinated teas there, but unfortunately there weren’t.  It was also some of the most expensive tea I’ve ever seen.  We got bolani and tofu of course, along with some very tasty berries.

Rancho San Antonio

After lunch on Saturday, Steph and I went to the Rancho San Antonio open space preserve.  It was a great walk down to the farm and back.  We ended up seeing a red tailed hawk on the way in that had just caught a rabbit.  The rabbit probably weighed as much as the hawk, and it wasn’t able to carry it off.  We also saw a deer on the way to the farm, and it went to relax in the shade of a nearby tree, almost disappearing in the foliage.  The farm was decent, but there weren’t as many bunnies as Steph wanted.  I’m not sure it is possible for the farm to have had enough bunnies for Steph.  That said there were only three or so, and they were hiding in the back corner.

Paint Night

We had a lot of fun painting, and it was a good random thing to do where no one has to worry about the outcome.

Andrew, Nick, and David all chose pictures to base their paintings on, with the rest of us just winging it.  I was happy with the two I made, one being the waterfall, the other being the silhouette kitties.  I really like the silhouette style art.

Songkran Festival

Sunday we went to the Songkran festival in San Jose, and met there Jeremy, Nick, Wit, and Riley.  The food was pretty good, and the Thai ice tea from the temple was delicious.  There wasn’t much else to do there, so we ended up sitting in the beer garden for a bit, while not liking the music.  The speakers were bad and the singing voices weren’t particularly good either.  We then went back to beachhead and played primordial soup.  It was a decent game, but there was a lot of uncertainty about what to do exactly.

Sherlock and FTL

We watched Sherlock, and played some FTL at Riley’s place on Sunday evening.  The episode of Sherlock was pretty good, but the bad guy didn’t get as built out as I was hoping.  The FTL was fun, as I showed Riley and Steph how to win the final boss battle.  We then had the others play through a round with me coaching them in some ways.  Riley unlocked 3 ships along the way, and Steph was in sector 7 when she got taken out by a slaver.  Wit just picked up the game, and I think his introduction was by far the most painless one can hope for, but he is surely addicted now.

Helping Adam Unpack the Plane Kit

I have decided to help Adam with his pet project of making a 1 person plane.  It is very interesting to me, and I am looking forward to learning some from him and the construction.  He has just finished the listing of the parts.  There were tons of parts, but that should be expected in something as complex and big as a plane.  It will be very interesting to see it come together, and help along the way.
