This was just as good as the first book, probably better. I really like the fullness of the story that is given from the books. I still think I’d be completely lost without the TV series. The number of names makes it pretty much impossible to keep track without some kind of mental reference. There are some small differences that are surprising. Also there are some places where the books goes farther than the series and some parts where it isn’t as far along. The pacing in the TV series and books are both good, but the differences are interesting. I’m looking forward to seeing the start of the 3rd season come sunday.
This is a pretty fun game, that lets you munchkin a bit and then randomly makes someone the traitor with superpowers. It is not terribly well balanced, but does have 30 something scenarios that can happen for the traitor coming up.
Bo and I had dinner and beers at The Source. It was nice and we got a lot of talking in. Bo likes the idea of Product Management and I think he could be ok at it if he could keep a cooler head. He likes rushing off into the unknown a little too much for being a good Product Manager on the analytics side. He also needs to spec a bit more than he is used to.
I got the Borek, some mushroom dish with rice. I had the Fish Tale Amber Ale, and it was surprisingly good.
We had some drinks at beachhead last night, and it was nice. Tina, Brian, Steph, and I played some board games. Riley joined us and put Real Steel on, but he is still feeling listless and depressed. Brian brought a very tasty beer, and Tina had a great port, but I don’t remember either of the names. I got Boba from Verde Tea Cafe.
We had a fun time before brian got to drinks night. It was a lot of fun, and I tried a different strategy than normal, by making lots of developments. I got second to Tina. Stephanie didn’t do too well.
This expansion is rather nice, but it makes the game incredibly long. There is certainly more strategy to it than the other versions of the game. The figures are incredibly powerful, but can at the same time be completely useless. The figures is how Tina and I beat Steph and Brian.
This is very closely followed by the TV series. It is a really descriptive book and I’m glad I have faces to put to each of the characters. It would be impossible to follow well without the face for each character. The extra tidbits are really nice as well, and of all the things that are going on the one that interests me the most is John Snow’s story at the wall. I’d love to just have that one continue further without hearing much of the other stories. I wonder if that would make an interesting and complete book. My guess is that each main character’s story would be a good book unto itself, but with some extra info filled in from the other sources.
We had a good talk and things are looking good, although Liwen got denied his Visa. Bo thinks it is because Liwen is single, and that makes him a risk for trying to marry for citizenship. I hope Liwen gets over, as that would make things much easier should it go well.
We grabbed some coffee at Ritual which was very tasty, and the went to BJ’s for dinner. BJ stands for Burger Joint. I got the chicken sandwich and a chocolate milkshake, and both were pretty delicious. After dinner we went back to Ritual and worked a good bit on the wording and messaging of the application. We talked to an interesting artist girl who made me feel really good about what we were doing, since we actually believe in it and are excited. She had talked to two businessmen style entrepreneurs earlier yesterday, and they sounded like terrible people who were just trying to get money.
