This was a very good book. I think I like the first one better, but the entire series of the Mistborn is fantastic. The final battle was a little underwhelming since it was pretty much glossed over. I supposed there wasn’t much variety to cover, but I would have liked to hear a little more about it. The main characters endings are very interesting as well. They have a lot going on and the plot takes a step back to a higher realm at the end. I’m not sure if I like that step back or not, but I’ll have to think on it.
Stephanie did a little painting of Archer and it turned out pretty well. Her subject was very cooperative and sat by the entire time being relatively still. He managed to keep out of the paint this time, which was nice. They are such cute kitties and Steph is a pretty talented artist when it comes to the coloring and blending.
This book was very good, and had a lot of great suspense. With the Final Empire fallen the government and world leadership must be built from the ground up, and it makes for a really interesting social thought experiment. The working of the third metallurgical art also comes into play. The world is greatly expanded and the characters develop greatly. The plot has a few really good twists to it as well.
The kitties watched closely as I painted some with my watercolors. I decided to do some simple nature scenes, that had a simple beauty. This led me to a sunset scene and a tree by a waterfall. They didn’t turn out as nice as I was hoping, but I still enjoy them. The kitties liked watching the brush and archer batted at the brush twice. Once he even got a little bit of paint on one of his paws and it ended up on the canvas. The small sapling next to the big tree in the picture is the result of that paw. The painting was a great way to relieve some of the stress that has been building up, since I’ve been working so hard.
Adam, Dan, and Andrew came over to Beachhead to play New Era with Steph and I. I got a really good start, and was able to get a lot of point producing buildings out. The best part was that most of the point buildings were action based, and didn’t actually require I spend resources and men to get the points. I got a massive score for the game, 46, when only 33 is required to win. Adam did really well also with a score of 41.
We met Stephanie’s parents at Panda Dumpling in San Carlos, and the dumplings were pretty good. The portions were very large, so we got some really good leftovers as well. They seemed to be doing well, and they are going to be going to Russia soon.
This book is quite interesting and I like the world that has been built. There are a few things that are a little over the top, like the mist, ash rain, and red sun. There is a lot of mysteriousness that isn’t explained in this first book. There is a really nice end to the first book, but it leaves things a little open for the next two. I like the characters and their development, and I also like the story.
San Juan was a good game, I tried to get some good point engines going without a card engine, but it didn’t turn out. Steph did the card engine and ended up winning with it. I wasn’t able to build nearly enough. Michael and Bill were fun to play with.
We also played Kingdom Builder. This was fun, and I was able to be very mobile with the bonuses. That kept me moving around and getting the castles, but I spread out too much and missed out on some important bonuses.
