New Years Dinner

Steph and I spent New Years at Nick’s place in SF and we played a game of Betrayal at House on the Hill.  I got a pretty simple game, but it was difficult for me based on all the character sanities being really high.  Luckily for me since all of them had really low might they couldn’t complete their goals anyway.  My character went away which was fine since she had gotten beaten up pretty badly.  We then played a few rounds of Hanabi and didn’t do too well.

We then got a Lyft to the restaurant for dinner, and they put us in the back room.  We got a ton of food and the duck was delicious.  I really enjoyed the conversation and it was a lot of great food.

Dinner and a Movie

Steph and I went to Shiok with Amanath, Rish, Tommy, Sara, and Max.  Max just did dinner, and the rest of us went to see the last Hobbit movie.  It was terrible.  The movie had so many boss fights that it was more or less one boss fight after the other, and each one was absurd in how it played out.  The eagles coming at the end, while actually part of the book, really made it seem that much more absurd.  The one guy I wanted to see fight, beorn, didn’t really get anything more than a quick scene.  We were amused by the mounts that showed up in the last battle; the elk, pig, and rams.  The rams were especially amusing since they came out of nowhere.

You Jam!

Steph and I joined Lindsay, Kevin, and Debby at You Jam!  It was a lot of fun, and I got a decent workout from it.  We did a lot of dancing, then we decided to go to lunch at a place nearby Kevin’s house.  It was Malaysian food and was pretty tasty.  We of course got Thai ice tea, young coconuts, and the roti with the peanut sauce.  It was all tasty, and they had particularly good tofu.

Iliya’s moving out dinner

Iliya is bringing his gf back with him from Bulgaria so he is moving out to move in with her (The typical reason for moving out of Beachhead).  The house decided to throw him a going away dinner.  Steph made an amazing baked brie with Texas on top.  The rest of the food and drink was good, and it was a lot of fun to chat and cook with everyone.  I will miss Iliya being around all the time.

Latkes Party and White Elephant

Adam had a bunch of people over for his annual Latkes party.  They were super tasty, and I got more than my fair share.  We also did a white elephant gift exchange.  I brought a tiny quadcopter that I picked up at Fry’s.  I was glad when it was the first gift to get stolen and locked.  I biked through the rain for 45 minutes to get that quadcopter since the next day shipping from Amazon actually meant 5 days.  I got some of the Playdo like sand, but I can’t leave it out around the kitties, as they would poop in it.  Steph got a machete.  The party was nice, and I enjoyed talking to everyone there.

Documentary Night – More Than Honey

This was a pretty good documentary, and the turn out was much more than the previous nights.  There were probably 15 people there, so I ended up grabbing some floor space.  We had some pretty good food as well.  Steph and I brought some gnocchi in pesto sauce.  Brian brought some quiche, and there was a tasty tuber mash of some sort.  I had a really good time and enjoyed the documentary.

Dinner with Christian

Christian and I met at Saigon City for some pho, and it was pretty good.  We had a great chat about where he is, and all the new things that he is going to be looking forward to.  We went to a nearby bar and had a few drinks.  On the way there the train in front of the one I was on hit a car.  That made me about 20 minutes later than I was hoping to be, but I had planned to get there an hour early and hang out at Philz until Christian got in, so not a big deal.

Hanging out at Beachhead

I had a few people over to Beachhead that had been over for games night before to hang out with Michael.  Steph and I cooked some potato gnocchi and we had some tasty sorbet to go along with it for desert.  Liana and Ryan brought over some cheese that Liana has reacted to, and the last of it was lingering with her.  Peter and Ophe brought over some really tasty rice and cauliflower.  Nima also joined and we got to chat about all sorts of things.  We didn’t play a game, but we did have a great time with each other.  I should invite those guys to do more.

Veggie Meatball Tikka Masala and Sorbet

We had Jeremy over on Monday night to have some veggie meatball and mushroom tikka masala, as well as help out in making more sorbet.  Even though it was one of the craziest bastardizations of food I’ve ever had the tikka masala was delicious.  It really confirms my thoughts that orange sauces are delicious.  We were also able to make 3 types of sorbet; blueberry, raspberry, and mixed fruit.  Steph and I had some a few days after and it was delicious.
