Neuroshima Hex, Shadows Over Camelot, and Avalon

Last night for board games night I showed up early and Riley let me in.  I got some of the Gyros Gyros falafel wrap for dinner, and it was delicious.  Riley decided to make some pizza, which was also really tasty.  I grabbed an angry orchard cider with elderflower, and it was really really good.

Chris showed up a little early and we played a game of Neuroshima Hex.  I was Blue and he was Green.  It was the first time I had played the game and I really like it.  Chris got an early lead, but once I got the hang of it I was able to get good traction and take him down.  The game went really well for me in both luck and figuring out the mechanics quickly.  BGG Link

Nima and Caryn then showed up and we played a round of Shadows Over Camelot.  The game was going really well, and then I decided to show that I was the traitor when we were all gathered around the Picks and I was supposed to put down the 5.  Nobody else had a 5, but they were all there.  They managed to get out of there, and even managed to finish the Picks since it didn’t come up for a while.  I was able to really hit them hard in a number of situations and the game ended when they lost the holy grail.  They weren’t doing very well in any other area either.  It would have been a close game even without me turning traitor.  BGG Link

Nima and Caryn left, and then 10 of us decided to get together to play a few rounds of Avalon.  It is just like the card game mafia, but with some expanded rules.  I think it makes the game actually fun since you can somewhat piece together who is who.  Chris was the Merlin character and he knew that he was going to be assassinated no matter what, which was right.  I think the game is fun and would love to play it again.  I was loyal both times, won the first, lost the second.  BGG Link

Tina’s Spaghetti Dinner and Brian’s Birthday

Last night Tina, Chris, Steph, Brian, Nick, Riley, and Amit were at Beachhead for dinner.  I brought over some berries and wine, but ended finishing off most of the Riesling by myself.  Tina was making spaghetti with her grandmother’s sauce, which was really tasty.  Chris brought over a rum chocolate cake, which was delicious.  The cream cheese icing always gets me.

The Old Wagon Saloon

After the Sabercats game we went to a place called the Old Wagon Saloon.  I met this overly talkative guy names David.  He was sooo over the top, but I have to admit that it was entertaining for a little while.  I don’t think I would want to spend much time around someone that is that loud.  I had 2 Blue Moons while I was there, making the start of the day correlate somewhat with the end of the day.  I finally found the Blue Moon, just not the one I was originally after.

TGI Friday’s with Robert

I had a great time talking to Robert at TGI Friday’s.  I could really use his help on the board game to get the iconography right and the mechanics clearly displayed.

Suppenkuche with Chris

I went to Suppenkuche with Chris H and Francis.  Chris is pretty much done with his coursework for the PhD and is going to be hanging around SF a lot more.  I will probably go hang out with him and work on PRAINZ some days.  He lives in a nice place in the city and it will be fun to hang out with him.  This will help him keep on topic as well as helping me to keep on topic. The restaurant was really nice, albeit a little expensive.  I got a fabulous mushroom soup and dumpling stuffed roasted chicken with potato pancakes.  I got two different beers and the second was really tasty, but I can’t recall what it is.

After Suppenkuche we got ice cream at a close by shop, Smitten Ice Cream.  I got the salted caramel and it was delicious.  (Smitten Site)

2nd annual meatball invitational

I had a great time at the meatball invitational.  A lot of people ended up coming as well.  Jessica, Caryn, Nima, Simon, Tony, and others showed up for the meatball making.  I served up some tofu pasta that some people liked and otherts thought was a little strange.  I really liked the meatballs and the marinara sauce that Nick made.  I am looking forward to eating a good number of them over the next few months.  I had a good bit of wine, some beer, some cider, and some liquor, but it was spaced out over the whole afternoon and evening.

Wine Tasting and Chocolate

After the sailing we decided to stop by some fancy places.  The first was a little winery tasting room for MJA Vineyards.  We had some of their wine, but didn’t think it was that great.  The chocolate covered coffee beans were pretty tasty, but that didn’t justify a purchase.  After the wine tasting we went to a chocolatier and got a lot of chocolate.  Steph was cute and kept seeing something else she thought sounded tasty and she would grab one and add it to our pile.  We ended up getting 11 different kinds of chocolate.  We tried one while driving back and it was really good.  I don’t think it was quite as good as the Chocolate Garage chocolates, but still nice.  It was more flavored with not as great chocolate.

Chocolatier Yelp

Old Pro

Last night Steph and I met up with Nima and Caryn at the Old Pro.  We got a couple of appetizers between us, and it was pretty good, but greasy food.  We also had a few drinks and it was a nice time.  Afterwards we went back to Nima and Caryn’s place.  On the way we stopped by Fresh and Easy to get some food for sailing.

Elephant Bar Restaurant

After the martial arts tournament we went to a place called the Elephant Bar Restaurant.  It was a really great atmosphere.  The fans were big waving fans that went back and forth, and there was a wooden elephant head watching us dine.  The food was decent, but I’d be willing to go back just for the atmosphere.  We all got drinks since they had just finished a really tiring tournament, I got a Blue Moon which was really tasty.  Dan was really happy to get his long awaited beer, since he’d been talking about it since the 3rd to last match he had.  All of them were so tired.  I really enjoyed meeting them all (Chris, Dan, Jason, Heidle, Diana, Michael).
