I’d say this is one of the weaker books in the series, as there wasn’t much focus on anything. There was the conflict of mother-daughter, the conflict of admiral-Ender, and the conflict of Ender-Achilles. The book lacked a coherent center, and even the world building that it did, didn’t have a good center about which it focused. I still enjoyed it for what it is, but look forward to the meeting of the shadow and Ender series, despite the main character of both being dead.
This was my favorite of the shadows series. The setting and interactions are so different. The book is also shorter, and it makes me look forward sooo much to the two series coming back together. I enjoy all the contrary information provided by this book about the Hive Queens.
This was a decent story, but didn’t have the kind of ending I would have liked. It had a lot of vague parts after Bean left the picture, where everyone just ended up getting along. That wasn’t the best of the stories in the series by far. I liked Ender’s Shadow the most with the rest going downhill from there. I am looking forward to the next book since there won’t be nearly as much baggage and it will be a completely different setting. I think it will have some really good elements.
This book was a big complicated mess, but the story was decent. The way that reality started to fall apart wasn’t all that appealing to me. I like the philotic connections that they make up, but the way that things crumble when they aren’t being paid attention to was a little much. I’m interested to read more about the communications with the new race.
This was a great finale to the story of Bean and Achilles. There were many parts of this that I didn’t expect, and that made it all the more interesting. I was also surprised by how well planned some of the moves were, making it very neat to see them come through. I liked this story especially well since the motivations behind all of the characters were very believable and understandable. The only one I was a little surprised about was Bean and Petra with their embryos, but I think that was a bit of the Mormon influence coming through.
This was a really pleasant book, that had a lot of background on the diskworld. The amusing parts about death and how he didn’t want the job anymore were very nice. I liked the way he treated the cats in the story. I look forward to reading more of the diskworld books.
This was a really nice alternative look at Ender’s Game. I really like the character Bean, and did in the original book as well. I’m looking forward to reading more about him in the next books.
This was a good Diskworld book. I prefer the other’s I’ve ready, but I’m still to run across a Diskworld book I don’t like. The story in this was a bit more coherent, with more of a point and purpose. I think that took away from it a bit, with the writing style not lending itself to serious stories well. I’m going to wait for a while before continuing on the Diskworld books, and it will be nice.
This was a great continuation of the first diskworld book. I very much enjoyed it and love the characters. The way strange things always come up that should have been there all along is also amusing, and with the style of the books isn’t annoying. If suddenly all rocks become trolls at night, then that doesn’t seem like all that strange an idea; even if they didn’t become trolls any of the previous nights. The ending to the story is epic, and seems to be a little final. It is a shame since I really enjoy the characters in these two books. I look forward to continuing my romp through the diskworld books when reading other things gets too heavy.
