I played a game of ad astra with Max and Steph. I got the card that makes you win with 42 points early on in the game and nearly hit it. Had I been able to move once more I would have hit 42 exactly. As it was I was kingmaker in the end as the score card I played would make either Steph or Max win depending on the choice. I officially chose Steph, but it really didn’t matter at that point.
Steph and I played this board game last night. I have to admit it is a good board game, but like many scripted coop campaign games, including dungeons and dragons in general, I don’t really care for it. I’m much more for free form games like GURPS in the JOW world. We lost one round and then won the second through a great piece of luck where we drew the final tile from the bottom of the deck.
Brian, Candice, Nima, Caryn, and I played a game of Factory Fun! Nima and Caryn picked up the game really quickly, and did very well. I picked up most of the really good pieces and got lucky a few times so that I could win with all the bonus points. The game was pretty quick and I had a really good time playing it.
When we got to Nima and Caryn’s we played some Factory Fun! and it was quite fun. I took a heavy handicap of the hard brown building, and on top of that I had to use only the leftovers of the other players. I managed to get a decent factory going despite the setbacks. The second game we played I didn’t take the use only the leftovers penalty, but Steph still beat me with her last move. It was a really nice machine she made, so I can’t be too upset about her defeating me.
I started playing Clash of Clans this past weekend and Darren saw me playing, so he added me to his clan. It is going really well and I think I found the good strategy for building units and defenses.
After the MTG we went to Castro to have some pho at Pho Hoa. I invited Steph and Nick, and they seemed to really enjoy it. We then went over to Beachhead for some games. We played Formula D, which is a game based entirely on roll to move. Not being in control of so much of the game is really annoying, but it overall wasn’t a bad game. Adam won and Steph got 2nd, Nick, Chris, and I blew up. After that we played a game of Galaxy Trucker. I got some really hard to deal with impediments. I played the flotilla and got the summersault. I had to put in so many engines, and managed to supersheild both ships. The third round I got the Built to Order and Faulty Connections, and on top of that I didn’t realize that I could use parts from the middle to fill out the ship. I managed to make a decent ship, but everyone was getting destroyed from tons of meteors and lasers. I ended up losing when my ship hit open space with no engines.
It took a long time to get back form Stillwater Cove, as 101 was a nightmare due to being late on a holiday. I took over from Steph on the driving with about an hour to home. I went to Adams and watched him and Andrew play some MTG. I had missed out on the draft, and watching MTG being played isn’t particularly fun, but I did enjoy the talk around the table.
Jeff had 6 decks that he’d put together that we played with this evening. One of them was his insane elf deck, but we didn’t use that since it didn’t mesh with the rest of the decks. I think the best of the others was his artifact deck, which came out really strong and caught a lot of momentum. The other decks were pretty slow to get going. He also didn’t capitalize on them enough. I can’t really blame him since he was really tired and nice just to be hanging out with me for the evening. He has lost a lot of weight and seems to be decently happy.
I finally got to Jeffs and wasn’t able to get in, but the garage was comphy and got a quick 30 min nap. Jeff cooked some really nice pasta with Shirataki noodles. These were some pretty good noodles. Olive is adorable and I got to play with her while Jeff cooked.
We played a round of Portal 2 racing, which was pretty interesting and well done. There were parts of it that you could really mess with the other racer by overwriting their portals.
After that we played Bocci Ball, Ping Pong, Archery, and Frisbee Golf. Jeff won most of it, but it was a good time.
