Wasabi! and Taluva

Last night Stephanie dropped me off at home so I could clean my gear and do some laundry.  I put my gear out back and got my laundry in the washer, then went to lay down for 45 minutes.  When I woke up I heard Brian and Nick talking so I can out to find that they and Candice were about to start a game of Wasabi (BGG) , the sushi making game.  won wasabi by a narrow margin at the last second since I was able to pull of a small roll.  We then continued onto Taluva (BGG) which is a really nice and interesting game.  I really like it and would like to play again.  The game has a lot of chances to be a king maker.  I won the first game by a lot and barely lost the second day because Brian chose to kingmake Nick.

Blood Bowl: Team Manager

This was a really nice game.  The pace was good, the theme was amusing, the chance wasn’t too overwhelming.  There was a lot of chance as part of the game, but the ways in which it was deployed wasn’t bad.  The frequency of the chance outcomes was a little much, since there wasn’t just a good and bad outcome: there was a good, neutral, and bad.  The way in which the combat worked was really interesting and something I want to think about further with respect to my board game attempts.  It was very elegant and simple to understand.  The pace was a little slow since we were learning, and the some of the rules interact in strange ways.  I’d really like to play this again.

I played one round of this at Games night against Chris and his high school friend.  I won, but by very little.

EGD at Brian’s

Brian, Stephanie, Adam, Tina, Nick, and I played more Glory to Rome at Brian’s place yesterday.  We got through about 4 games before Stephanie and I had to leave for Horseback riding.  The game is becoming more clear to me in the strategies that work.  It is about exploiting the ability to do more than others when following, and not allowing others to gain by following you.  I didn’t win any of the games, but got second in most of them.  Nick took the last game from me when he stole the wall with his prison, but those things will happen.  It would have been nice if it wasn’t the turn before I finished.

Adam’s Brunch

Adam invited Stephanie, Lee, Andrew, and Lee’s gf to brunch today.  It was really nice.   He served some pastries with strawberry filling kind of stuff, there was jewish style french toast, and bacon.  He also served a salad with strawberries, nuts, and cheese.  Afterwards we played Glory to Rome about 5 times.  I won once, by a landslide.  The other times we played were much closer.  I really enjoy the game glory to rome, as it is well paced and not that long.

Portal 2

I had a great time playing portal 2.  It is just as funny as the first one, if not funnier.  The mechanics of the game were fantastic.  The gels make it much more full, especially when you add in the gel that allows portals on the surface.

Galaxy Trucker

I won with a score of 109 against Jullian, Stephanie, and Tina.  I found that having the green things are the best way to handle the game.  Super sheilds and super laser, a little bit of engine.  The engines are usually useless, but you need some in order to avoid problems.

Starcraft 2

I played a ton of Starcraft 2 this weekend, and got steph to play with me.  I’m having fun with some of the rush techniques I know about.  It would be more fun for me to play against Steph and show her how the game really works, but she perfers to play through the campaign.  I can tell that I’m playing it way too much, but it is soooo much fun and hard to resist.  I’ll try to make up for it by working out some more, but that still doesn’t cut it. I should be working out anyway.

Betrayal at House on the Hill

This is a pretty fun game, that lets you munchkin a bit and then randomly makes someone the traitor with superpowers.  It is not terribly well balanced, but does have 30 something scenarios that can happen for the traitor coming up.

Race for the Galaxy

We had a fun time before brian got to drinks night.  It was a lot of fun, and I tried a different strategy than normal, by making lots of developments.  I got second to Tina.  Stephanie didn’t do too well.
